Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on a trio I made out to Narrabri, a small town in the North-West if New South Wales, Australia. One of my biggest habit (much to the demise of any passenger I may have on board) is that I will see a dirt track and curiosity gets the better if me and I turn my car into it. Not having a 4WD I have nearly been caught out before and had to reverse some distance to get back to safety. Anyway, this track wasn't all that long and it led me to a part of the Namoi River just south of the town.

Time

Normally I prefer early mornings or evenings as the light is often better, however this shot was taken more of the middle of the day. The trees helped to filter the sunlight and give the water the reflections you see

Lighting

As mentioned above, I prefer morning or evening shots for my landscapes. Sometimes you just have to make do with where you are. The trees here helped to filter the light and I do not think I could have got a better setting.

Equipment

Nothing fancy here, just my Canon 80D and a sigma 70 - 300mm zoom lens. I didn't even set up the tripod for this one.

Inspiration

The purpose of my trip this particular day was for taking photos of abandoned buildings and shed. This just was an opportunistic shot. The track led me to the river and the scene just opened out for me.

Editing

I do have Photoshop and Lightroom. I very rarely use Photoshop and in Lightroom I just tweak the light and noise if need be, crop my photos and add my watermark. I try to minimalist any other changes.

In my camera bag

My Canon 80D, sigma 70 -300mm lens, canon 50mm Prime lens, sigma 10 - 20 mm wide angle lens, sigma 250 - 600mm lens and my tripod.

Feedback

Don't be afraid to go off the main roads, keep your eyes open and look around for the best composition. Have fun with what you do
