Populus angustifolia. The bark on this modest-sized tree looks like its near relative, aspen (Populus tremuloides). But aspen leaves are nearly round, while these are long and narrow. The bark on teh narrowleaf cottonwood starts out smooth and yellow-green, like aspen; but the bark on narrowleaf cottonwood trees ages to becomes gray and furrowed.
