Location
The image was taken on the walkway by the Scottish National Gallery in Edinburgh, Scotland. I was on an extended trip to "find my highlander ancestors". Although Scotland is a beautiful, enchanting country, weather is not its forte'. Spring is generally cloudy, often rainy, and, by Florida standards (my home) quite chilly. But on this day, Mother Nature relented. It was bright and sunny and many native Scots decided to take their lunch in Princes Gardens, downtown (historic) Edinburgh. What is not so evident is it was around 60F, windy, and I (from Florida) was standing on a raised walkway, freezing to death. But the Scots would not be denied the sunny day! The tower is the Balmoral Clock Tower and Hotel. 1 Princes Street, an Edinburgh landmark, designed in 1895. When I was there, they elected to allow the clock to remain three minutes fast in order to hasten 2020 into historic oblivion.Time
Around lunch hour, on a work dayLighting
Yes!! There WAS lighting!Equipment
A Sony A33, on which the electrical system failed shortly thereafter, requiring purchase in Scotland of a replacement (or go home disappointed). I had a Sigma 18-300mm lens as my "walk-around" lens.Inspiration
Princes Street Gardens is a photographer's dream, bordered on the north by Princes Street (Edinburgh's "Main Street"), on the South by The Royal Mile, from Edinburgh Castle to Holyrood, the Royal Palace. The center space is Princes Street Gardens, running for several elongated blocks and filled with greenways, museums, historic locations, restaurants, bars, and tourist sites.Editing
Probably. I generally clarify my colors and do a little cropping to get the best (in my opinion) out of my images. In my camera bag
I currently carry a Sony A68 which renders great images, but is bulky, heavy a little "bruised" and "grey market" since I bought it in Scotland. I also carry a Sigma 18-300mm telephoto, a Sigma 10-20mm wide angle, and an assortment of chips, batteries, wires etc. I have been a really good boy this year, so I am hoping Santa brings me a new Sony a6600, but, like everything else this Christmas, It's already running late. Maybe they can add a few more reindeer!Feedback
Yes. Retire and live in Scotland for six months. I promise you won't regret it. See my images! Other than that, the only thing technical or difficult about this particular image was being in the right place at the right time!
