I have no idea what the red spheres are that I saw for the first time on May 1, 2018 when I visited the Houston Museum of Natural Science's Cockrell Butterfly Center. They were not there on previous visits, and I didn't think to ask any of the Center staff or volunteers. Of course, I can conclude that they are soaked or coated in nectar, otherwise the color alone would not be enough to entice these rice paper butterflies to stay perched on them for such a long time.
