Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was set up in my makeshift home studio, otherwise known as the garage.

Time

Sometime during a long afternoon...

Lighting

Off-camera flash aimed at a white backdrop made from a sheet hung over a clothes rail.

Equipment

Fujifilm X-T10 with 18-135mm lens @ 27mm, off-camera flash, tripod, cable release.

Inspiration

A video by Gavin Hoey https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WwcFbRUfHkk

Editing

Oh yes, just a little! This is actually three photos combined - two splashes and the glass stems.

In my camera bag

That depends. My basic setup is a Fujifilm X-T10 with 18-135mm, but I might also take along my X-T1 with a 50-230mm. If I want to be more discrete, I'll use the X-T10 with a 27mm pancake. For particular circumstances I might take a Samyang 8mm fisheye, or use an old Nikon D300 with a 105mm macro lens or 500mm zoom.

Feedback

Experiment with different glass shapes as they affect the form of the splash.
