Behind The Lens

Location

It was taken at my place of employment in Maribyrnong (western suburbs of Melbourne) in Victoria, Australia.

Time

After several attempts over 2 frustrating days (trying to get a shot of her while she remained still) I finally managed to get this shot at 1.30 pm on the 24/4/2018

Lighting

100% natural light, the shot was taken under a large tree with the sun directly above the tree.

Equipment

Camera used was a Nikon D810 with a Tamron 150 - 600 mm lens @ 240mm with a Kenko UV filter I was about 5 metres (16 feet) from the fox.

Inspiration

There are several foxes on the site but this was a young one that appeared to have been banished from the group as I had seen two other foxes chasing her when she started hanging around near our building. She was getting a little to comfortable with humans as some people working onsite had started feeding her so much so that she was entering buildings to look for food. Foxes are an introduced species in Australia and are classed as vermin and a decision was made to either bait or trap her, fortunately she was trapped and taken to a property in a rural area. I wanted to get some photo's of her before she was removed

Editing

Minimal processing was done in Lightroom CC I like to make my shots as close to how they appeared as possible, I had to increase the exposure(+15) as it was taken in the shadow of the tree & reduction in hue and luminance of red, orange, yellow and green and increase saturation in the same colours.

In my camera bag

In my bag I have the Nikon D810, Nikon D7100, Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX-II 11-16mm f/2.8, Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 DC HSM, Nikon AF-S 50mm f1.8G, Tamron SP 150-600mm F5-6.3 DI VC USD, 52, 58 & 77mm UV & Polarising filters, 95mm UV filter, MeFoto RoadTrip tripod & 4 Nikon EN-EL15a. The bag is fairly heavy but I like to have all my lens on hand just in case an opportunity presents.

Feedback

Patience is essential I took approximately 50 shots but only 2 were good as wild animals tend to be unpredictable I really lucked out with this shot as she sat still long enough for me to get it.
