Behind The Lens

Location

The Brooklyn Botanic Garden

Time

Mid-Afternoon

Lighting

Completely natural!

Equipment

My Sony a6000– it’s a mirrorless camera

Inspiration

The colors and textures of the flowers. This cluster of flowers is in a tropic greenhouse and nestled in a corner. I had to crouch onto the ground to get this angle and I almost fell into the pond next to it— but completely worth it.

Editing

I used photoshop cs6 to do minor brightening and saturation

In my camera bag

I carry a different camera with me almost every day. My Sony a6000 is my go-to but I also use my Canon Rebel XTI, a Holga 120s, Vivitar 35mm, and Polaroid Sun600 on a regular basis. When I do photo shoots I do have white balance reflectors and tripods with me but I like to carry at least camera with me at all times because you never know what kinds of shots you can get in the every day

Feedback

Be willing to look for the smallest of details. This cluster of flowers wasn’t very big and it was in a corner of the green house. I noticed it and had to crouch down to get the shot I needed— and I almost fell into the pond next to it, but it was worth it. I’ve walked through an empty park in a nor’easter, crawled on my stomach in a graveyard, and laid down on a countless amount of floors to get the perfect shot of something others are overlooking
