Behind The Lens

Location
This picture was made on one of my "Fine Art Portrait" Workshops last year in Villach/Austria.
Time
It was taken in the afternoon.
Lighting
Most of my portraits are made with one light, the same with this image. The Subject was lit with a 150cm octabox from the left side, no additional light for the background.
Equipment
The camera used was the Fujifilm GFX with the GF 120mm macro lens. I shoot most of my portraits handheld because I prefer to have a maximum of flexibility. In this case I used a Jinbei HD610 flash with a 150cm umbrella octabox.
Inspiration
My motivation mainly was of course to show my participants how to light a portrait and how to pose your subject in the most flattering way and of course I am very happy, when in the end, a image like this is generated.
Editing
Yes, of course, some post processing is necessary for portraits like this. It starts with skin retouching and ends with the creation of a color or black and white look. In this case I used one of my Lightroom "Fine Art Monochrome" presets.
In my camera bag
This depends a lot on what I am going to photograph and is for this reason not always the same. In my studio everything is available, but for example if I am planning to shoot portraits on location with available light I pack a very small bag with my Fuji X-T2, the XF 56mm and the XF 35mm, two batteries and two SD-cards - that's it, I like it to work with the minimum of gear. I would like to have my attention during a portrait shoot at the subject and not on switching lenses or focusing on technical aspects.
Feedback
Keep it simple! work with one flash and really focus on the subject to get the best expression. Portraits are about the photographed person and not about elaborate technology.
