As children, the blooming of the old Kieffer pear tree in the back year heralded the arrival of Spring. Somehow, almost 40 years later, that ancient tree is not only still standing, but still blessing us with loads of beautiful blooms and bountiful fruit. Every year (for the last 20 years at least!) we think this will probably be the last year for the old tree - the trunk is but a shell, rotted out over the years, the branches aren't very strong any more, and often break under the weight of its fruited burden.......... and yet, each year, it returns to life once more :) Photo taken as the sun set on a beautiful spring day........
