Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on Big Creek Rd in Ellijay Georgia.

Time

Sunset of course. Late afternoon in October 2017

Lighting

I made sure to stay within the natural color temperature of the setting by manually setting the white balance on my DSLR. I wanted nothing contrived or artificial about this photo at all. I also underexposed it by 2 f stops for increased contrast in the highlights and deeper hues than the technically correct exposure would have given. The only editing to this photo was a high pass sharpen of 30% & a vignette to the edges This photo has been printed as a 30x40 canvas and is still available for purchase

Equipment

This was taken on my Nikon D90, no flash and my 200 mm Nikon lens No tripod.

Inspiration

I set out on this day for nothing more than to explore and capture the rusty and amber golds of fall. I specifically made it a point to photograph this old cabin nestled in this hollow on Big Creek.

Editing

No post processing. I shoot in jpeg large and fine always. I never shoot raw. Never needed to.

In my camera bag

My two Nikon D90s. My Nikon SB900 speedlite. My mini pod. My external Mic. My 200 mm lens and my f3.5 macro 120mm. Always have a polarizer, skylight and UV filter.

Feedback

The less you do the more you get. Shoot natural. Editing and graphics programs, shooting raw, are way overrated and usually unneccessary if you have years of experience in photography and/or a formal edu. I took it in college in 98. Also. You don't need the best latest most expensive DSLR to capture beautiful photography and produce sharp clear large fine art prints. You just have to know what your doing. I have used the D90s since 2014 and I won't switch. I have no reason to. I can get incredible images and huge prints out of my D90 and if it breaks. I just buy another one used for a few hundred dollars.
