Behind The Lens

Location

The event was held in the grounds of the Olympic stadium in Munich, Germany (and the surrounding hills!).

Time

Mid-morning. There were many different group starts throughout the morning.

Lighting

An excellent Spring day and so very good light.

Equipment

Canon EOS 70D with 18-55mm lens - hand-held.

Inspiration

The event itself. I went along especially to take some photos. It was most interesting to see all the different obstacles and how well the competitors managed them. It was also quite amazing to see the number and range of different people that were competing.

Editing

Very minor adjustment and cropping.

In my camera bag

This Canon 70D with 18-55mm and 75-300mm lenses.

Feedback

Firstly, watch out for interesting events that are nearby and then make the effort of going along to see what good photo opportunities there might be. Secondly, in terms of this particular image, try to make sure that you position yourself to get an excellent angle/perspective of the subject. In this case I was pleased to get what looks like a head-on shot from the middle of the track (just before getting run down by hundreds of competitors!). Despite the large crowds, I had managed to get a prime position for taking photos on a slight bend in the track shortly after the start. Then leaning across the fencing panels achieved this view, as though I was about to be right in the centre of the action.
