This photo was in a series of shots taking in my very first attempt at panning. The panning technique is one where the subject is in as good as focus as possible, but where the background is blurred due to the motion of the camera following the subject. I think this technique was very successful with this shot because it not only gave a sense of speed, but also provided the viewer of the photo a sense of absolute focus on the subject, as the skater is the only thing in focus and worth looking at in the entire frame. This technique proved to be immensely challenging, and required over 300 shots and almost 20 re-dos of my friend riding down this large hill just to capture this one shot, but I think the reward was well worth the cost.
