Location
I took this photo in the Distillery District of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The Distillery District is a commercial and residential district in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Located east of downtown, it contains numerous cafés, restaurants, and shops housed within heritage buildings of the former Gooderham and Worts Distillery. The 13 acres (5.3 ha) district comprises more than forty heritage buildings and ten streets, and is the largest collection of Victorian-era industrial architecture in North America. The district was designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 1988.Time
It was at 9:30 pm in September of 2014.Lighting
The quiet street with not too many tourists around the lonely chairs and tables in front of me with only one single light source didn't take a lot to convince me to take a photo of the scene.Equipment
It was a Canon 5D mk2 with a EF 24-70mm f/2.8 L USM lens handheld at ISO 12,800 at 24mm f/2.8 1/200 sec with no tripod. The scene was darker than the photo.Inspiration
I always love the Distillery District after dark, I kept going back time after time. I just couldn't resist the history that it represents. It's peaceful and sad that someday (in the far future) this could be gone to make room for progress.Editing
I didn't feel that I should darken it at that time, I might do it differently now. I did very little post-processing other than darkening the light source a little so as not to draw so much attention. In my camera bag
I tried to carry just use one camera body with one lens knowing I cannot carry everything with me on a leisure walk. The most I have with me will be one body with 2 lenses in my camera bag on a trip. I basically decide what lenses to use before I set forth to go out, I am sure I missed a lot of opportunities because I didn't bring the right lens.Feedback
Just to have a camera with you every day and give yourself a chance.
