Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in East Don Parkland, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. A valley and river trail very much like by walkers, runners and cyclists. It is as close as you can get to enjoy the beauty of nature.

Time

I took this photo on October 3rd of 2017 at 5:25pm. My purpose of the walk was to enjoy the start of Autumn to view the change of season and to take some photos.

Lighting

At that moment, it was diffused sun light all around. Very much wanted some directional light but decided not to wait.

Equipment

I used a Canon 5D3 with a EF 100mm f2.8L macro lens; also a EF 24-70mm f2.8L II as a spare. I did not carry with me any tripod or flash so that I can complete my daily walking exercise without burdening myself.

Inspiration

I enjoyed the change of colors around me and was taking a few photos of color leaves and flowers and all of a sudden this was a change of scenery to see this object. I closed in and took one photo hand-held and was very happy what I got. I set the camera shutter speed to 1/400 sec and let the camera do the rest, which turned out to be f6.3 and ISO 12800.

Editing

I did not do post-processing on this photo and I wished I did. It was a raw file (CR2) and subsequently the colors were a LITTLE pale. I would like to sharpen the central portion and intensify the colors a bit. All in all this amounted to a very candid shot.

In my camera bag

I always carry the minimum in my bag. I decide before hand on each outing what are the best equipment for my purpose on that trip. I seldom have more than 2 lenses and 1 camera body, the lesson for myself is to shot (photograph) with what I have.

Feedback

Keep looking around and picture a photo every chance you have.
