This piece was very difficult because I am opposed to disrespecting our Country in any way; whether it’s burning our flag or taking a knee during the National Anthem. I love my country and what the American flag represents. I spent fourteen years of my life protecting the flag and our way of life. The flag is more than just a symbol of freedom, it also means home to me; so protecting our flag is protecting my home.
I am so thankful for all the men and women who have served our great nation, protected our flag and preserved our freedom. “We the people” should not use the First Amendment as an excuse to abuse the freedoms our service members fought so hard to preserve. We may have the legal freedom to express our unpatriotic views even going so far as to burn our flag. This doesn’t mean it’s morally correct or honorable. Furthermore, it’s hard to imagine why 45 percent of Americans think it was appropriate for football players to take a knee during the National Anthem!
The reason I bring that up is the same reason why the title of this photograph is called “Welcome to the New Age.” We are living in a scary time and it’s only getting worse because the people who have a platform to make a difference are sending the wrong message and there will be consequences! But when that happens the same people who think the football player’s actions were appropriate will be asking. “Why is this happening?” Because it’s a new era created by a nation that has turned its back on God. We must hold true to God’s word, so I pray that God’s people will realize what they are doing is wrong and turn from their sinful ways.
Respect for Authority Romans 13:1-5 “Everyone must submit to governing authorities. For all authority comes from God, and those in positions of authority have been placed there by God. So, anyone who rebels against authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and they will be punished. For the authorities do not strike fear in people who are doing right, but in those who are doing wrong. Would you like to live without fear of the authorities? Do what is right, and they will honor you. The authorities are God’s servants, sent for your good. But if you are doing wrong, of course you should be afraid, for they have the power to punish you. They are God’s servants, sent for the very purpose of punishing those who do what is wrong. So, you must submit to them, not only to avoid punishment, but also to keep a clear conscience.”
