Behind The Lens

The photo was taken at lake Braies in Dolomites. It was a great trip for 2 weeks in Italian Alps.
It was taken in the morning. I get out of the camper and went right into the landing stage of the boats. It is not permitted but I was not alone and I had to take this picture :) This is one my favorite images from this trip.
There was no lightning in the photo. In the post processing I did some dodge & burn in the objects that are important for me. I've made the boats a little bit brighter and the tree tops as well. Also I took out more details to the most important objects of the photo, but not detail at the whole image.
This was shot on Sony A7R + Samyang/Rokinon 14mm f.2.8 on a tripod.
I've seen a lot of pictures of that place before. It looks really amazing and very different from before. There was not that much water in the lake so going inside the landing stage was not that hard. I wanted to take this photo because this place looks so peaceful. The boats are a great combination with the awesome peak in the back and the leading lines of the stairs. I was there in the best season (autumn).
Yes I did post-processing. Firstly (In camera raw) I have pulled down the highlights a bit, and bring up the shadows. Changed the color temperature and added a bit contrast. Remove chromatic aberrations. In photoshop I have changed the tonality of the image, I made it a little bit warmer selectively. Also I've made some threes a little bit more orange than they look in order to correspond better with the boats.
In my camera bag
I have always in my bag my Sony A7R, 50mm f/1.8 Sony lens and my Samyang 14mm f/2.8. This is all I use at the moment in most of the times. I have always carry my tripod and 6 stop ND filter.
You have to be really patient and wait for good conditions. Also if you go at place to shoot check all the angles that you think that are interesting. Make photos from these different angles but stick to your most favorite composition and make as much photos as you can with slightly different changes (to the composition). Also when you're on location and shoot, don't think about rules. Just watch about balance in composition and review your image right after the shot. If you spot something annoying in the photo get rid of it. Probably the most important thing sometimes is interesting foreground which creates depth in the photo. Look for some leading lines and for more middle-ground, background elements as well.
