Behind The Lens
Location
This photo was taken at a make-shift studio set up at my office in Danbury, CT.Time
I believe this was shot in the early afternoon but since it was lit with strobes, the time of day is not really important.Lighting
I used two Flashpoint Xplor600 strobes with soft boxes to light this shot.Equipment
I shot this session with my Nikon D610 and a Nikkor 24-120mm ED lens with a Flashpoint R2 pro trigger. Lighting was two Flashpoint Xplor600 strobes on light stands with 28" GlowPop soft boxes. Background was a light gray seamless paper.Inspiration
The two women that were modeling for me are hairdressers and makeup artists and I wanted to recreate a 30's style photo in black & white with one element of color to give it a more contemporary feeling. They brought the wardrobe and props.Editing
This image was probably edited first in Lightroom and then in Photoshop CC. A mask was created to isolate the lips and then the rest of the image was converted to black & white. In my camera bag
I always carry two cameras in my bag just in case something happens to one. My main camera these days is my Nikon D750 but I have a D610 as a backup. I carry several lens but my go-to lens these days in my Nikkor 24-120mm.Feedback
I find it's always best to find models that have some experience in front of a camera. This saves a lot of time at the shoot since there is less coaching involved. Having experience with post production techniques is also helpful.
