Yesterday was the Opening Day for the Women Rock! exhibit in Round Rock, Texas. It will be on display for the next few weeks. The beautiful work of many talented local artist are on display in the exhibit and it is grand. About a month ago, I heard about the event and I thought about what the theme meant to me. I was initially hesitant to enter a photograph until I reflected upon my life to consider the many women mentors I was fortunate to have in my life. I remembered how they have helped inspire and guide me through my life’s journey. I am thankful for their wisdom and thoughtfulness.

I am pondering the words to say when I consider my interpretation of Women Rock! It is a powerful theme and one that I feel needs to be embraced and appreciated. There are countless triumphs of women throughout history. Even if some stories have only been recently recognized; many stories I feel are still waiting in time. I think our society still has a while to go to encourage young ladies in fields like math and sciences. Someday I think we will get there as stories are told like the recent movie, “Hidden Figures” where three brave and brilliant women who were instrumental and critical to the success for the United States working at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.

It is wonderful to share a photograph in the Women Rock! exhibit. I think the photo I submitted illustrates many positive aspects such as camaraderie and the excitement of being a motorcycle rider where women and men share the same connection and admiration of the motorcycle. I also think it shows the strength and determination of any women. You just have to believe you can and you will. I discovered the motorcycle rider is Krystal Hess. Among her other accomplishments; she is the founder of Motorcycle Missions, a business leader and role model in the community. I admire the work her organization does to assist Veteran and First Responder heroes. I hope you take a moment to visit Motorcycle Missions; http:--www.motorcycle-missions.org-.

I spoke with the lady who won the competition. Her artwork is amazing. I only met her briefly and I believe her story would be very interesting to many. When she was a lifeguard in her teens she met a military recruiter and that moment inspired her to join and retain a career in the United States Marines Corps for 25 years! Semper Fidelis!

I have always believed and still to this day believe; women can do anything that a man can do without question and without compromise.

I hope if you are in the area that you come and visit the Round Rock ArtSpace (https:--roundrockarts.org- ) to view the exhibit. If I may ponder for a moment. I hope you take a moment to reflect upon your life’s journey to consider the impacts and accomplishments of the ladies in your community and in your life. If you do not have an event like Women Rock in your community perhaps you can propose one. In my opinion, we have come a long way and we still have a long way to go to recognize, appreciate and be thankful.
