“Through the looking glass” was actually a spontaneous shot of Pikes Peak taken while waiting for the sunrise. It was a beautiful day in March on King’s Crown in Woodland Park, Colorado.Time
There are only a few things that motivate me to get up at 5 am in below freezing temperatures, one of them is the anticipation of what the sunrise as to bring! It is hard to be disappointed with any of Colorado’s landscapes, but this particular morning was exceptional. The day before a snowstorm blanketed the mountains with light crystal snow that shimmered and reflected variations of the orange, pink, and golden colors of the sunrise. During the “blue hour”, just before the sunrise, the clouds covered most of the peak so I saught out a different view thus creating “through the looking glass”.Lighting
With the reflecting snow and the way the light shined through the clouds it gave the perfect window of opportunity to capture the serenity of that morning’s hike.Equipment
This was shot with a Nikon and a 30-110mm mirror less lens.Inspiration
A good friend helped my family out of a jam, and with great appreciation, I dedicated that morning to take photos for them.Editing
A variation of post processing was done due to the drastic contrast in lighting. Mainly the brightness of the image was manipulated in photoshop to see Pikes Peak through the trees. In my camera bag
As an inspiring photographer, I take most everything with me! My husband, or as he says “handsome sidekick” , will attest to that. A few favorites that never disappoint are the Nikon 6.7-13mm (wide angle) and 70-300mm mirror less lens.Feedback
The best advice is to to evolve and roll with the unexpected, you never know what may come from it!
