A threatened species throughout its range in South America, but in some places you might see quite a few of them, as is the case in some Fazendas (ranches) in Pantanal that have set aside land to be untouched.
They love this tall grass which grows in soil that is under water in the wet season. With the nutrients brought in by the floods, these grasses are richer in nutrients and taste.
What is so amazing is that these individuals were not intimidated by human presence as they have been left alone for many years due to the preservation of land they depend on.
