Oh my gosh, the sky is amazing. I would have thought about turning around as well. Great shot.

This was taken in Western ND near where I grew up. We were on our way back to Colorado and had stopped for gas. Several storm chasers pulled into refuel. The storm was amazing so I grabbed my camera and just took this one picture before we were back on the road heading South back to Colorado.

Location
We stopped for gas out in Western North Dakota on our way back to Colorado. At the station were a couple of storm chaser vehicles. The storm was boiling up so this was a right time right place picture. It was late in the afternoon but with the heavy cloud cover, it was somewhat dark. I was using a Nikon 7000 at the time and thought it would a more interesting picture if I used the road as a leading line.Time
It was late afternoon between 4:30 and 5:00 pm. The cloud cover made it seem much darker.Lighting
It was a rush shot as we wanted to be out of the area before the storm caught up with us. There was some lightning going on but I wasn’t able to capture any.Equipment
This was taken with my Nikon D-7000 and a 50 mm prime lens. No other equipment as this was a grab, go, and shoot picture. My camera setting was 1/250, 5.6 on the aperture, and the ISO was 100.Inspiration
The storm colors in the late afternoon were amazing. The clouds seemed like they were boiling up and with the wind blowing dust in the air, the colors were amazing.Editing
No post processing was done. I wished I could have had a better depth of field. In my camera bag
I have upgraded to a Nikon D-850 and carry all Tamron lenses. My primes are 45, 85 and a 90 macro lens. My zooms go 24 to 70, 70 to 200, and 150 to 600. I have good tripod with a gimbal for birds, and wild life.Feedback
Keep your camera at the ready and plan ahead with the settings. If something pops up, you are ready to get the shot.
