Behind The Lens

Location

This shot was taken for a project called Morphology. Morphology is an evolving photography exhibit, documenting the construction of the 26-hectare Jim Tovey Lakeview Conservation Area on the Lake Ontario shoreline. Part of this parcel of land will be developed into a wetland. The wetland area will be photographed over several years until completion, estimated as a six year project. This piece was called '5 Dream' as in five years to go.

Time

We started shooting just before sunrise. It was a cold overcast day with the sun trying to break through, although it never did., I believe this shot was taken closer to 9am

Lighting

The overcast November morning brought a dark moody feeling the image.

Equipment

Nikon 800, no tripod, no flash. I believe I used my AF-S NIKKOR 70 - 200 lens.

Inspiration

The wetlands project has the integrity and ecological conscience that nurtures our diligent plans for the planet’s survival. ‘Morphology’ explores a photographic moment that otherwise may not have been captured. This is a rarity, I am honoured to be involved.

Editing

Yes, I believe I used the Aurora editing & Photo shop. I wanted to soften up the over all picture as a contrast to the rugged terrain.

In my camera bag

My go to lens is the AF-S NIKKOR 70 - 200. I also carry a wide angle AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED, and for fun a AF-S FISHEYE NIKKOR 8-15mm f/3.5-4.5E ED. I also make sure I have an extra battery and cleaning kit brushes, lens tissues.

Feedback

Catching the light just as sunrise is breaking (and setting) is very rewarding.
