Great Egrets are wonderful birds to photograph. They seem very thin and slender until they open up their wings. They have a huge wingspan. After repeatedly going to the backwaters along the bay in California and seeing these birds , I was able to predict and understand their movements. This photo was taken in the morning just a short while after sunrise during when the birds stand in a vantage point where sunlight falls on them and they dry themselves and work on their wings to clean up any dirt.
