Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken on New Years Eve in New York City. My family and I went there for a vacation last year.

Time

This photo was taken just as the sun was setting and it was no longer visible behind the iconic bridge.

Lighting

I obviously was aiming for a surrealist take on my favourite city; a city of dreams and so although slightly enhanced, the beautiful tones left behind from the sunset proved a great natural lighting set up for the work.

Equipment

This was shot on a Canon 80D with a 18mm-135mm lens and was pretty much a point and shoot project.

Inspiration

I had always dreamed of going to New York. My mum lived there when she was younger and told me great stories about it, and so every story she told resulted in me taking a photo (sort of like documentary photography)

Editing

I used photoshop to edit in a photo of the moon I had taken myself. Also, I enhanced the colours and shadows to give it that magical feel. Aside from that, nothing !

In my camera bag

I always have my Canon 80d and Canon 18mm-135mm lens with me. A spare SD card and a spare battery or two never goes a miss. I also carry a filter and sometimes my Canon powershots sw510 because the zoom on it is insane!!

Feedback

Always have your camera somewhere that is easily accessible. Otherwise, you miss the shot because you’re trying to set up the equipment! Also don’t be afraid of creating something rather than just documenting! Experiment in post production and dare to do something eith a photograph that’s outside your comfort zone! If you don’t like it you can always edit it again.
