After a day trip up to the Door County Peninsula (Wisconsin) this month, I discovered that there were ice shoves forming early this year along the western AND eastern coasts of the peninsula. I've always wanted to try and shoot the Milky Way with Lake Michigan ice shoves as a foreground, but it's often quite dangerous to get this close. These particular shoves were especially unique with giant blocks overlapping and stacked on top of each other like poker chips. I wasn't able to capture this from the shore line with my 35mm lens, so I had to venture out about 100 yards onto some pretty thin ice to position myself just right. As cool as the image turned out, I will likely not take that chance again as the ice was literally cracking under my feet.
