Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on a cold winter day on the way home from work in a daisy field just off the highway.

Time

Just after 5pm on a cold November day.

Lighting

The sun was setting much earlier in the day and I could see from the road that the colours were just insane so I trudged through mud onto the field and snapped this shot, just the one.

Equipment

Shot handheld on a beginner Canon T6i with the kit 18-55 lens, low ISO for 2 seconds, no flash.

Inspiration

This tree is called "Thunderheart" by the locals and had been sitting alone in that field for decades. It was iconic, and has since blown down in a windstorm so photos are the only memory it has.

Editing

Very little, just some tone adjusting and sharpening in photoshop. The picture nearly created itself!

In my camera bag

I still have my Canon T6i as I'm just an amateur with a wife, 3 kids, a dog and a cat so I can't afford the best gear. But I've splurged on a 50mm art lens and a 10-18mm for astrophotography. Next up is an 80-200mm f/2.8 series for some mountain backpacking landscape shots.

Feedback

Just always look around you. People drove by that tree every day and it was just part of the background. See the beauty in the background and bring it to the front.
