Behind The Lens

Location

A natural forest ground of Sungai Chiling within Hulu Selangor District in the Selangor state in Malaysia.

Time

Its around the mid-day of a weekend hike with friends, and the clouds was intermittent.

Lighting

It was a cloudy day at that moment, so I have to use a little higher ISO to get this image. I avoided using flash as it may disturb the wildlife as well as make the image become too bright, and I'm not very good at it.

Equipment

Nikon D 5300 with a Tamron 18-270mm, hand held.

Inspiration

There are hundreds of butterflies flying and dancing in mid air. This little one stood out with zebra colours as others would be very colourful, yellow, red, green etc. When it started to circle around the rock edge and rest, I just took my opportunity to approach and waited. When it senses that I wasn't hostile, it just do what it normally do and I took my chance.

Editing

I do a little or sharpening, contrast and lighting adjustments with the Nikon software, NX2.

In my camera bag

Just my camera of Nikon D 5300 attached to a Tamron lens.

Feedback

Patience is the key. Take multiple shots and choose the best shot, It's a wildlife anyway, so expect it to move around and be itself. But don't get dejected if you don't succeed at first, don't chase them around, let them come to you. Wait for your shot, Once they are comfortable with you, they will allow you to take their shots. And yea, don't try to touch them or catch them.
