This is from a mini series that I tried to do during my free time, I want to isolate some of the most iconic building in Singapore completely from the surrounding and imagine how it would look like as a single subject.

Capitol Theatre, briefly Kyo-Ei Gekijo, is a historic cinema and theatre located in Singapore, it was adjoined to four-storey building known as the Capitol Building. The Capitol Theatre was considered as one of the Singapore's finest theatres in the 1930s during that time.
In 1929, Mirza Mohammed Ali Namazie, a Persian businessman of the Namazie family, commissioned the theatre to be built in Singapore, with S. A. H. Shirazee, an Indian-Muslim merchant and community leader, and the South African brothers Joe and Julius Fisher from First National Pictures, joined in to form Capitol Theatres Ltd as its operator. Namazie would serve as the theatre company’s chairman with Shirazee as director, Joe Fisher as managing director and his brother Julius Fisher as the publicity manager.
Joe Fisher travelled overseas to acquire the materials for the theatre’s furnishings, decorations and design. The Capitol Theatre was designed neoclassical architecture by British architects Keys and Dowdeswell, with its general plan, seating arrangements and lighting inspired from the Roxy Theatre in New York, United States. Builders Messrs Brossard and Mopin began construction of the foundation around July 1929.

My mothers family was from Singapore. My grandfather was Julius Fisher he owned The Capital Theatre before WW2. This brings back memories of all the stories my mother and uncles would tell. Thank you

Location
I took the photo during after joining a light decor and performance at the National Gallery Singapore. I was on the way back to take the subway and passed by the recently restored historic cinema (if interested some info available at wiki https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capitol_Theatre,_Singapore).Time
This was taken around 9 P.M. if i remembered correctly and quickly become one of my favorite images not only from that night, but sort of one of all time favorites for myself.Lighting
No particular lighting techniques here, just to make sure exposure is correct and sufficient for post processing.Equipment
I took it handheld with slightly higher ISO. At that time I was testing the newly bought sony A7RIII with 1635GM lens. It was actually done in few minutes with couple of other shots, but this one turns of to be the best one.Inspiration
I think as human being we are always feeling nostalgic of something in the past memories. Or some said nostalgia is a yearning for an idealized past! The architecture in this case is just too attractive, the neon lights of the front facet work magically and simply make the building standout. It was just like walking passed a time capsule that have just been opened. In fact, during the processing I started to have an ideal to document all the iconic buildings in Singapore with the similar processing method and presentation and I am still working on this long term project.Editing
Indeed. I processed the image in black and white, this one was done in Lightroom and Silver Efex Pro. I tried to carefully isolated the building from all surrounding background and distractions. The few people in silhouette in my opinion brought the image to life yet not too disruptive to the ideal of isolating the building.In my camera bag
These days I tend to packing light that fit easily into my Think Tank Change Up bag. So I will have the A7RIII always attached to a L-plate, a 16-35mm, a 135mm prime, Lee Filter adapters and the 100mm big stoppers, wireless remotes, extra battery (but I have to say the current Sony camera battery is just brilliant, one is always enough for at least a day for my case) and memory cards. And a tripod of course. If I were to really walk around just for street, I will just bring out my Leica Q with very small camera pouch.Feedback
I think regardless of being a photography enthusiast or pro photographers, we should always be keen about our neighborhood and surroundings. We need to have the desire to explore and keep our imagination opens. Also be decisive when you see something you are really interested to shoot. Sometime the conditions (lighting, environment etc) might not be ideal but it might works after you process it if you already have the composition or can imagine the final look of the image in your mind). And keen to learn about different approach in shooting or processing. I seldom done heavy processing to my images, but in this case I tried and spent quite sometime to make it work as I am not very good at post processing.
