Death Valley, California
Back in December I travelled to Valley of Fire State Park, Nevada, and while I enjoyed my time there, the weather was a bit boring. It was too stable with no clouds--just the same clear skies everyday. So after a couple of days I headed to Death Valley. I had forgotten that they were so close!
This area of the park is less traveled, and it had been on my list to explore for some time. I only encountered one other person in the 24hrs I spent here.
I walked the dunes at sunset, took a break for dinner and a quick nap, then headed back out in the night to see some stars. I stayed out on the dunes through sunrise, which is when this was taken. The starkness of deserts has long fascinated me. Like a clean slate for impressions to form on, desert photography allows for a lot of interpretation. To add to that, there is always a rich history, and many desert lands are ancient. The energy of the past lingers in places like these, making them appealing for experiencing a raw connection with the land.
