Behind The Lens

Location

This photograph was taken on the campus of Texas A&M University. I was visiting there as part of a field trip learning more about the programs, culture, and traditions of the University.

Time

This was taken early afternoon. The building is a common area for the campus.

Lighting

.The lighting is a combination of the sunlight coming through the windows and some moderate fluorescent lighting hanging above the display. I simply used what was there to use.

Equipment

I have a Canon SX 410 IS. It is a "basic" camera with few bells and whistles, but it serves well as I learn the ins and outs of taking quality shots.

Inspiration

When I saw this display, I climb up a flight of stairs to get this unique perspective of the work. I was intrigued by the symmetry of the display, and the beauty of the design. When I saw the A&M banner at the end of one of the columns, I knew I had something unique for a shot.

Editing

What you see here is what I took. I'm hoping to learn post-processing techniques in the future.

In my camera bag

Right now all I keep is my Canon camera, a few extra SDHC cards, and a lot of hope I will be in the right place at the right time.

Feedback

Don't be afraid of taking chances with whatever camera you have. Take as many shots as you can when you can even when it seems strange to people around you. (The people around me thought I was nuts when I went up the stairs to take this picture. When they saw the shot, they changed their minds.) One of the things I am learning by being on View Bug is to capture the pictures that capture my imagination, my interests, and my inventiveness. Hopefully, what I capture will capture the interests of others. With this is mind, I'm hoping to grow in my skills.
