This photo was taken in the Dallas, TX area.

Time

I was at a local apartment complex. As I was leaving, I saw this sunset. The area had a recent run of some pretty bad storms. As I was leaving, I saw this view. The sunlight bouncing off the clouds was a stunning sight to me. The intensity of the colors in the clouds really came out because of the dark outlines of the trees and surrounding buildings.

Lighting

I am a big fan of natural lighting. Honestly, I'm very surprised at how intense the colors are, and how well they show up in this picture. I'm aware that sometimes a photographer gets a bit lucky. For me, this is one of those times. This is one of my favorite pictures I've taken of a sunset. It means a bit more to me because of how strong the earlier storms were before this sunset.

Equipment

For this shot, I had a Canon Power Shot SX420 IS handy. It was the only camera I had in my car at the time. This was a case of seeing the sunset, grabbing the camera I could find, then taking the shot hoping it would come out well. My hope was rewarded.

Inspiration

I'm a huge fan of sunrises and sunsets. They remind me of the blessing of seeing another day of life. This particular day, after surviving the storms that hit the area so hard earlier, the setting sun creating such a rich hue of color was a ray of hope at the end of the day.

Editing

I thought about it. After viewing the shot, I decided to simply let the naturalness of it stand out. I think I made the correct decision here.

In my camera bag

Right now I keep the aforementioned Canon Power Shot SX420 IS handy pretty much all the time. I have added a tripod to the trunk of my car so it is handy. I'm still in the beginning stages of becoming a serious photographer. I am thankful to ViewBug for the online videos posted so I can learn. I would like to work with some local photographers to learn from their experiences too.

Feedback

Keep a camera somewhere close by always. Do not be afraid of taking any picture you would like to see. Take the shots that interest and appeal to you - in short: shot with your heart. I've learned it takes a lot of tries to come out with the one you want, but the time taken to do so is well worth it.
