This image was a self portrait inspired by one of the big passions of my life, ballet. I wanted to create an image that was beautiful and elegant, but also reflect the truth of the art. Ballet is a strict, intense and rigid activity if performed at a high level. You must be incredibly strong muscularly but you must also be strong emotionally. Daily I faced a confidence crisis,asking myself if I was good enough, if my body was comparable to the others, why did my teacher not progress me? Watching a ballet is the most whimsical, elegant, effortless performance in the world; but performing a ballet is intense, vigorous and strenuous. In this image I created the illusion of a tutu made from rock and stone placed on my body in a position that makes me look vulnerable and fragile. The idea was to reflect both the elegance and delicacy of ballet with the strength and power required for it.
