On the turntable is the lovingly-restored steam locomotive 60009, Union of South Africa, an LNER Class A4 built in Doncaster in 1937. Pictured on a visit to Didcot Heritage Railway, she is one of six of the surviving iconic Gresley A4 locos. Originally called Osprey, she was renamed after the then newly formed Union of South Africa. Her springbok plaque was donated in 1954 by a Bloemfontein newspaper proprietor.
Turning her for her return to base is a job that requires (and has always required) plenty of manpower and muscle. I gave the picture the sepia tone of a timeless scene.
