Location
New Orleans, Louisiana a few days before Mardi Gras. And just off Bourbon Street. Close enough that there was a party attitude, street bands were playing and marching; but not all the time. The streets hand plenty of people; but weren't packed.Time
Night time; probably ten or eleven o'clock. But New Orleans Bourbon street...Lighting
Street lights just out of the frame provided most of the light; but the light on the top of the frame was bright enough to cast shadows from the bicycleEquipment
Olympus OM-D EM5 ii. 12-40 F2.8 lens. With a monopod for stability.Inspiration
Bourbon street is a historic neighborhood with many older buildings, some with great detail in the doors. This scene highlights the door but includes a bartender serving a drink. Nice contrast between the old building and the bar scene inside; with a bicycle to add a point of interest.Editing
Black and white playing with the sliders to produce higher contrast. Intelligent fill to remove some distracting signs. In my camera bag
Olympus micro four thirds cameras work great for street photography; the small size is not as threatening as a full frame DSLR. The light weight means you can put more lenses and accessories in the bay. So there is a wide selection of lenses from 7mm to 300mm in the bag. A rain cover, and some base filters (polarizing, neutral density, and haze).Feedback
There is an Ansel Adams(?) quote about the difference between great photographers and so so photographers is the size of their waste basket. Shot a lot of photos, but be very critical of your photos, throw away any that aren't exactly what you want.
