Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo, back in 2007, while walking around my mothers garden in central Minnesota

Time

It was taken shortly before noon. It had been raining all morning but the sun finally broke through and I knew I had to take advantage of the situation.

Lighting

There was some filtered light coming through the trees in the area which helped since it was the middle of the day

Equipment

I used a Canon Rebel XTI, just handheld since I was walking around and looking for interesting shots. I had this camera for about a year when I took this photo.

Inspiration

I had always admired my mothers green thumb. She seemed to have the ability to grow anything she wanted, where ever she lived. I wanted something to remember my trip back home that year.

Editing

I did some simple processing with Adobe Photoshop Elements 15, A little bit of color boost and a slight contrast adjustment. Didn't need much when you have a beauty like that sitting in front of you

In my camera bag

At the time I took this photo I carried my Rebel XTI, along with a small foldable tripod. I also carried a 75-300mm zoom lens which I had been gotten from my grandmother when she bought a Canon T50 to go to Alaska. I love the fact that I can use a lens from an old 35mm film camera even today with my new Canon!

Feedback

The only advice I have to give is just take the time to look around where ever you are. Try to think differently than everyone else. Imagine you are a dog and take a look from low angles, maybe imagine you are a bird looking from above. You never know when a great opportunity might come along.
