Photography during my first trip to Iceland was challenging given the power of the winter elements. When I first saw this shot, the light was dull and misty and I was fairly sure it wouldn't work. When I saw the light as I got back to the minibus after coffee, I decided it was worth delaying everyone for a couple of minutes ...

It was too beautiful not to photograph it!Equipment

We had visited a beach closer to these stacks, but the wind was gusting and black sand blowing so I didn't take many shots. We then stopped for lunch. I was a little late back to the minibus because I had to buy shoes (needed for other activities). Everyone was on the bus, except me. Just as I was about to climb on, I looked over at this view and saw the light. I was forced by the weather and the light to make my companions wait! I'm glad I did :)Editing

This was during a 3 month trip where I travelled from Australia, via Auckland, to South America for an Antarctic Peninsula cruise, then headed to Europe for a European winter trip to Germany, Czech Republic, Iceland, Scotland and England. I had to pack winter clothes, which were heavy and bulky, but I also needed camera gear and back up. I had my 6D with me and a 200D. Three lenses all up, a travel tripod, my laptop and an external drive. Camera and computing gear were in camera backpack.Feedback
Keep monitoring the light. An unpromising day can include moments of brilliant light. If you're visiting somewhere you're unlikely to go to again, don't let bad conditions put you off taking shots. Some may be fabulous because of a brief break in the light. The others may not be so good, but they still make fabulous reminders of your travels.
