In the late summer of 2017, I had the opportunity to travel to the island of Tahiti, to document outrigger canoe athletes competing in the 1st Annual IVF World Distance Championships. While we stayed there, there was another traditional Tahitian race going on at the same time, which is known as the Heiva Va'a Race. Luckily, I hopped onto an escort boat and the captain drove us into the middle of the race course. While the intense race was going on behind me, I managed to pull out my camera and quickly snap this photo, right before the competitors showed up.
