Location
This photo was taken at Great Falls in Virginia, The headwaters of the Potomac River. A very nice park to hike, and learn some history on how the falls were made through years and years of water flow.Time
Was a very cold morning in December of 2017. It was around 6am and 15 degrees out. I was not dressed for this but had to get a few pictures!Lighting
I wanted the Silky look while keeping the details sharp and in light. This was the perfect spot during this time of the year. Due to the sun rising to the right of this image.Equipment
Equipment used for this shot was the Canon 5d Mark IV / Canon 24-70 L II lens. Tripod used was a Zomei Z888C. The filter used was a Formatt Hitech kit with the Firecrest ND 1.8 filter.Inspiration
I've always enjoyed photography, But also wanted a waterfall picture like I've seen so many others post. So went to the best place in the area, and came out with the above image! I was really pleased with the results.Editing
I normally shot in RAW only, and import to Lightroom to slightly bring back any shadows, and or lighting. This was was very close to the RAW image. Brought the shadows up a bit, and adjusted the darks. In my camera bag
Normally I hike with my camera bag. I always have the following when I'm shooting landscapes. Canon 5d MK IV Canon 7d MK II (Backup) Canon 16 - 35 L III Canon 24 - 70 L II Formatt Hitech Filter system Multiple batteries Indura Carbon Fiber tripod.Feedback
My advice on capturing a long exposure shot, Is to take as many photos as you can. You can sometimes stack the photos later on to make an even better image. Also, You don't need fancy equipment to get an epic shot, Time and Place play a huge role. And basic gear. Learn your gear, and practice practice!
