It was an indoor shoot. Probably under a dark staircase just to get my desired lighting.Time
It was almost evening, so it was dark already. So no natural daylight got in and made it easier for me to take the picture. To be very precise, it was taken on February 23, 6.04 p.m.Lighting
My initial plan was to only focus on the fairy lights and make a minimalist photo, without any other elements in it. So I worked on it accordingly. My ex-girlfriend, who is holding the jar in the picture, and I looked for a dark place and thankfully found it easily. I only wanted the jar to be lit and exposed, so I chose the camera settings to take photos a bit underexposed just so the surrounding is dark enough. And we luckily got it right the first time!Equipment
I always rely on the natural light I get. It makes my work limited but I feel it keeps the photos close to authentic. So, just the Nikon D7100, and my favorite lens, Nikon 85mm 1.8G.Inspiration
When I took the photo, there was this trend going on, taking pictures of people with LED strips. So I did try all the cliched poses, a female in the dark, some strings of LED lights tangled around her body, yeah, guilty as charged. But I wanted to take one photo for myself, and this was the one.Editing
I did work on the photo in Lightroom for the basic temperature control and shadow/highlights. I changed some hues here and there to set the tone I wanted. Nothing extravagant. In my camera bag
I don't much like to carry a heavy bag with me, and since I'm a natural light photographer and also, my choice of photography does not require a tripod, It's just me and my good old Nikon D7100, my all rounder 35mm 1.8G, and the best one for me, 85mm 1.8G.Feedback
This photo is very simple one to take to be honest. Just know the basics of the lighting and camera, pick a relatively darker place and you're good to go. It all depends on the vision you want to execute, the mood you want to create, the tone you want to set. It's a magical thing we have here, that can play with light, with darkness. Tweak them, see what clicks.
