Behind The Lens

Location

I took this shot on a boat on the Seine river. This was taken on Christmas evening of 2017. I was still new to my camera and photography in general and always shoot in manual mode so I was impressed with how this image turned out.

Time

This is probably my favorite image taken on my honeymoon to Paris over Christmas. We ate dinner in the Eiffel Tower before hopping on a boat on the Seine where I was able to get this unique view of the tower. This was probably shot around 8 or 9:00 in the evening.

Lighting

The low hazy clouds created a great beam of light out of the top that can be seen in this image.

Equipment

This was taken with a Canon Rebel t6i with an 18-55mm lens

Inspiration

I was inspired to take this shot because I felt this is a different and unique view of the Eiffel Tower that you typically do not see. When taking photos of something so iconic, it can be a good idea to get a different perspective than what you typically see in pictures.

Editing

I did very minimal post processing to this image as I was still learning all the little ins and outs. The main thing I did was reduce the noise as it was shot with a high iso to get the exposure correct while shooting handheld on a moving object.

In my camera bag

My photography skills have grown and gotten much better since the shot. I currently keep my canon t6i, a 50mm lens and a 18-135mm lens in my bag. I also carry a tripod, 3 memory cards, a few microfiber cloths, an extra battery, and my cross shoulder strap for hiking with the camera out of the bag.

Feedback

I'd always recommend a tripod when trying to get a shot like this at night. The tripod will allow for a slower shutter speed and that way you will be able to reduce your iso, which in turn will reduce your noise.
