Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in our daily driver pickup truck. Nothing special. I’m still in the learning stages of photography. Whenever I see an opportunity, I point and shoot.

Time

The photo was taken in the mid afternoon on a partly sunny day. The sun was out at that right moment to highlight Abby’s face.

Lighting

When taking pictures of my black lab, Abby, it’s tricky to get that right lighting to get the important details of her face. The side profile was perfect along with the sun peeking out for that brief moment.

Equipment

Of all thing, this picture was shot with my iPhone 7plus. Nothing super special.

Inspiration

The composition of the picture was Abby got a chance to come along for a ride in her Daddy’s truck. Rolled down the windows so she could see him while he was picking up some items at an auction. Abby always has to keep a close eye on her Daddy. When she poked her head out of the window, I was initially taking the picture just on Snapchat to send to a few friends. Once I saw the potential in the picture, I knew I could go many different directions with editing.

Editing

Between adjusting the exposure, contrast and highlights, I wanted the picture to be in a soft tone. So the sepia look was more than perfect to capture my vision

In my camera bag

On a regular basis, I will have my Canon Rebel EOS T6, 2 different lenses, 18-55mm and 77-300mm, spare batteries and charger, as well as a 60mm and 80mm clear acrylic photography globes.

Feedback

My best advice is to always be ready and looking for your picture moment. Whether it be with your phone or camera, always be at the ready. Don’t be afraid to shoot in cloudy weather. A lot of pictures can turn out amazing even in cloudy, overcast weather.
