Behind The Lens

Location

This image was shot as I was leaving Zion's National Park.

Time

I shot it early in the morning as the sun was coming up.

Lighting

The light is always amazing in the desert southwest. This was off season for the park, so the air is very clear. I almost did not see the shot. I was climbing up toward the tunnel, and happened the glance into my rearview mirror as the sun bathed the cliffs in light.

Equipment

I shot this with my Sony A-65 with a Sigma 18-300 zoom

Inspiration

Traveling the southwest frequently, I'm always looking for those beautiful moments as the landscape and light change.

Editing

I did a bit of enhancement of the sky. The cliffs were a little cool, so I warmed them slightly.

In my camera bag

I was on the way home from an automotive shoot in Las Vegas, so I had a lot more equipment than usual. I carry two camera bodies. The Sigma 18-300mm, A Tamron 11-17mm Wide angle, Tamron 24-70mm f-2.8 zoom lens , Tamron 17-24mm f2.8 zoom A set of ND filters , A Sony flash, a remote cable release, and a tripod.

Feedback

Because this involved a bit of luck, I think my best advice is to be aware of changing light and don't forget to look behind you. This and a number of my best shots were taken after looking behind me.
