Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken outskirts of my Home town in Mysore, India. This was my favorite spot for night sky photography.

Time

It was one of those clear dark sky and less windy days which made it easier for me to capture this magnificent natural phenomena. This was taken on January 31st, 2018 at nearly 7:30pm IST.

Lighting

This was the difficult part as I was near the city which added to the unwanted light for the foreground image. Taking the moon photo was a smooth job.

Equipment

This was captured on a Nikon D800E with a AF-S Nikkor 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G lens on a Gitzo Traveler GT1542T tripod.

Inspiration

Night sky and moon always made me awestruck, but this one day made it even more special as it had more than one phenomena on a single day, the Lunar Eclipse, blood moon and the Super blue moon(which is not blue in color)

Editing

I did process this photo. Stacking of multiple images to form a single frame and the foreground image was the only processing done. All the images were shot by me on the same lens, camera and tripod setup.

In my camera bag

I usually carry my Nikon D800E with 2 to 3 lenses all the time. These lens are 28-300mm which gives me a flexible focal length even though its slower, my next lens is a 14-24mm f/2.8 for the landscape and a 70-200mm f/2.8 for the portraits. I also have a 50mm f/1.8d and a Sigma 35mm f/1.4 art which is an amazing lens. Apart from these I have a pair of batteries, ND filter and a DJI Mavic Mini for some aerial shots.

Feedback

Always be prepared for anything and don't have high expectations on the weather. Photography means patience, so don't lose hope and keep on trying until you get that perfect shot. If you are not satisfies take another shot because you might never get a chance to shoot it again
