Behind The Lens

Location

I enjoy the autumn time of year and I took my children out for the day. I always take my camera with me so I don't miss an opportunity to take a photo that catches my eye. We were enjoying the scenery of Brown County State park as I was driving along this road. Since I was going slow, I decided to try to get this picture out the front windshield of my car.

Time

My family and I were spending the day in the park. We took family photos and we went horseback riding. At the time this photo was taken, it was getting later in the day around 6:30 p.m. on October 31, 2016.

Lighting

I loved the way the sunlight shown through the trees and on the road but yet there were shadows as well.

Equipment

This photo was shot using a Cannon Rebel T5 with a 75-300mm lens. The focal length was set at 100.0mm, the aperture was f/4.5, the ISO was 3200, and the shutter was 1/2500. I did not use flash or a tripod.

Inspiration

I am always looking for great photos and my mind is always thinking about what would be a great shot. I love nature and the beauty of it. The trees were beautiful with their yellow leaves and the fallen leaves on the ground. The light was showing through the trees and the road was lit with some of the light with the shadows of the trees. I decided that it would be better to take the shot through the windshield than try to stop and get out of the car because it was perfect as I was seeing it right then.

Editing

Yes, I use a program called Picasa. This photo editing program allows me to enhance my photos to bring out the colors with more brilliance. I am always searching for ways to improve my photos and looking for the wow factor.

In my camera bag

So besides my camera I always carry with me two lenses. They are the 18-55mm lens and the 75-300mm lens. These lenses are what came with the camera and I find that they serve my needs for taking photos quite well. I also carry in my bag an extra battery that is fully charged and the charger. I have extra SD cards and a cleaning cloth for the lenses.

Feedback

If you love nature and love capturing it through your photography, then just keep looking for that perfect shot. Nature is always changing and time of day has a lot to do with how the lighting will affect your photo. It is better to capture nature either at dawn or dusk. I took a photography course and the instructor emphasized this over and over again. However, it is not always possible and if your only chance it to get the shot in the middle of the day, then you have to decide if it is worth taking the shot or not.
