Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Seitseminen National Park in Finland, by the lake Saari-Soljanen.

Time

It was late November, the time of the first snow. There had been some snow falling from the sky during the day (and couple of days before), but the sky cleared when the temperatures went down. But still some soft and light clouds can be seen in the photo.

Lighting

The daylight time is very short that time of year here, so, at 4 pm, the sun was already behind the skyline of pines and other trees. It was also quite cold, well below freezing temperatures. All that made the light soft and turned the tones into pastel-kind blue and pink tones.

Equipment

The camera I used was the Olympus OMD E-M5 mk1 and the lens was the Samyang 7,5mm fisheye. Great, tiny combo. There is no defishing done here, just the horizontal line set to the middle.

Inspiration

Seitseminen National Park is one of my favorite places to visit - daytrips or bit longer visits. There is always something to photograph and enjoy.

Editing

Photo was shot in raw-mode, developed in CaptureOne with some minor adjustments. No defishing for the distortion.

In my camera bag

On trips like this I normally have lenses from 7 to 300mm and 1 to 3 camera bodies. So, minimum of three lenses (zooms), sometimes more, if I think I know what I'm going to need and shoot. But usually the plans change...

Feedback

This Samyang fisheye is so small, that it is always hard to keep fingers and shoes out of the photo... That's why I used the Em5, it has dimensions that make handling easier. For lights and everything else... Keep your eyes open!
