Location
The photo was taken at the entrance to China Town in Liverpool, It was just before the Chinese New Year so the street decorations were a welcome addition to the scene.Time
The photo was taken at around 8.30pm in the evening, It was cold and this meant (thankfully) few people around. I had to manouvre my tripod to get a decent angle as there is a busy road just behind where the picture was taken. China town in Liverpool is a great place to visit, particularly at the Chinese New Year.Lighting
As you can see from the photo there was a good deal of light from the street lights and the Archway, I didn't need to do anything in addition to choosing the aperture and shutter speed to get the best possible outcome.Equipment
My camera was a Nikon D3200, and I used a Nikon 10.5mm Wide angle lens. Basic tripod.Inspiration
I had wanted to take this photo for a while, China Town always looks great at New Year, so colourful and vibrant, a real inspiration for any photgrapher who wants to capture that light and colour. I am an amature photographer always wanting to learn and experiment. Taking this picture helped me expand my understanding of night photography and my enthusiasm for getting out there.Editing
Use of Lightroom/Photoshop to enhance the colours and crop down the image a little. But not too much post-processing required. In my camera bag
I normally have Nikon 85mm telephoto Lens, 10.5mm wide angle Nikon lens, 18-300mm Nikon Zoom lens, 18-55mm Nikon lens also tripod. I have just recently upgraded my camera to a Nikon D5300. As I have said tho I still have a lot to learn.Feedback
Try to get out and about at different times of the day /night this gives you a flavour of what the scene will look like and possible vantage points to take the photo. I took a couple of pics on my mobile phone prior to going out with my gear, just to give me an idea of what I might want to capture. Don't be afraid to have a go (there were also a few that didn't make the cut!).
