MOUNT NGAURUHOE (a.k.a Mt. DOOM)

It featured as Mount Doom in The Lord of the Rings movie. This is an experience not to be missed! This is the best hike I have ever done. Hands down, a crazy early morning walk which started around 1:30am and arriving in the summit just before sunrise. No surprise to me that it is indeed considered one if the finest single day walks in the world. Not easy by any means, and it will in fact take all day. Though this scene at early morning didn't look too foreboding at all, the crossing takes you through some of the most spectacular volcanic formations of this country, Mount Ruapehu, Mt Ngauruhoe and Mt Tongariro. From the summits you can see the plains, lake Taupo, lake Rotorua and in between the Emerald lakes. The sights and colors and truly magical and should not be missed on any trip to this volcanically active region. Your camera will get as good a workout as your legs!
