Behind The Lens
Location
I happened to catch this just as it was coming over the horizon behind our apartment.Time
This was taken at 8:48 PM. I didn't have my camera with me when I first saw it, so I had to run back inside and grab it. Caught in the nick of time.Lighting
In order to properly expose the moon, everything else had to be under exposed. But that drew more attention to the moon. And I loved how it just caught the tops of the trees as a silhouette against the moon.Equipment
This was shot with a Canon Rebel T5, 75-300mm kit lens and tripod.Inspiration
It was the day after a blood moon, and as I was walking by I noticed how low on the horizon it was. I loved the trees in front of it.Editing
I only cropped 4 times on my phone to enlarge the moon. No other editing was done.In my camera bag
I always carry my 50 mm. It is my favorite lens. I also keep my 10-18mm, and sometimes I'll throw in my 75-300mm. ND filters for my 50mm and 10-18mm and extension tubes. That covers most of the things I come across to photograph.Feedback
Don't worry about anything but the moon. Even if the rest of the sky is black. I love seeing the details and craters on the moon. To do that, and to minimize camera shake if you're hand holding (which I generally do), keep your shutter speed around 1/320 and ISO as low as you can, as the moon's reflected light is bright and to have higher image quality. Use a zoom lens, at least 200-300mm. The lower you keep your ISO, the bigger your aperture will need to be to compensate.
