Location
This shot was taken in Kabale, Uganda while on a Primate Safari with 11 other photographersTime
This was probably midday. We had been waiting all morning under our ponchos for the chimps to come down from the canopy.Lighting
Lighting is always great when the air is saturated with moisture. The rain had just stopped when I took this picture which helped enhance the vibrance.Equipment
Hand held Canon 6D with a 100-400mm lens.Inspiration
We had just hiked out of the forest and the rain had just stopped. I turned around and there was this chimp peeking over the bushes at us, as if to say goodbye--one last look for both of us.Editing
In LR 6.14: cropped, highlights down, shadows up, whites -41, blacks -17, +58 on clarity, reduced sat. on green and yellow a bit, and lowered luminance on green quite a bitIn my camera bag
When I got back from Uganda I up-graded to a Canon 6D Mark II, the latest version of the Canon 100-400mm, and added a 1.4x III extender.Feedback
The lesson from this picture is to put yourself in a situation where you have a chance of getting an interesting capture: Go on safari, visit a national park or wildlife refuge, learn how to track animals and set up a blind, etc.
