Akimoto lake was formed after Mount Bandai erupted in the 1880s and the resulting landslides trapped some rivers causing the formation of the lake. It is a part of a tri-lake formation including lake Onagawa and lake Hibara, the largest of the three. This photo was taken at sunrise showing the frozen lake and dam covered with snow on a very cloudy day.
